Todd Bol :- A Meaningful Life !
On 18th of October the founder of Little Free Library, Todd Bol passed away. He died of pancreatic cancer at age of 62. So, what was so special about the 'Little Free Library'
and what exactly made his life ' Meaningful' Let's get into it !
On an afternoon of 2009, a man named Todd Bol was working in his garage. He suddenly remembered that he had to get his old door fixed . He first thought to sell it of but he wasn't ready to do so because it was one of the last signs of his mother who had passed away . So instead of throwing it away he decided to make something out of that wooden door. Something 'useful' ! He carved out a cabinet out of it . Since Todd's mother was a teacher, she gave him many books and each of them were pretty special for Todd. He took out all the old books he had and placed all of them in that cabinet . He went in the garden and kept that cabinet in the park so that the neighbouring children could read these books. He observed that not only children but people of all age were reading the books regularly . Tod got it !
Everyone was fond of reading but there was one big issue, the time-limit to return the book was specific. Even the penalties for not returning the books on time had to be paid. Todd had a great solution to these issues. He understood that "The Libraries were taking it as a business but what if I do it for free ?" What is more important and satisfying than seeing a book-lover getting his favourite books ! Todd went on making more such Little-Libraries and also asked for the feedbacks and suggestions from his readers. People loved his works and ideas . They started recommending it to there loved ones and the word of mouth started spreading . People now had started there own Little-Libraries in small towns and villages . Idealizing Todd , many people started distributing books for free. The best part of Little-Libraries was that it had became a social square where people with different interests, had same practise, READING ! There was no time limit to return the books nor any penalties. There is only one line written on every Little-Library ''Keep One Book, pick the another !"
In today's date there are over 70,000 Little Free Libraries around the globe . He is an example that an idea which benefits people,
gets real love and blessings from them.
His life was meaningful because he thought beyond self fulfillment , beyond profits , beyond salary checks and most importantly
Beyond one's needs ! Today he may not be among us, but his works made a significance .
